Service Learning
For my service learning I helped out Deb Swartz in Pasadena. She had her own little cooking show type of thing and I was assisting her in passing out food and anything else she needed. But where I did most of my hours were in my church (Sacred Heart) in Pomona. I worked in the kitchen preparing whatever meals were on the menu for that week. This was a great service learning place because there were always different people every week. Most people would say this is bad but the reason I see this as good is because I learned different things from every single one of them and it helped alot. They showed me little pointers that no book could ever teach me. It was a great experience.

Independent Component 2
These are some of the things I made for my Independent Component 2, including making the food for school events such as Scare Fair and I-fest.
Scare Fair I was making tacos. There were many challenges I faced while doing this. One of them was the pressure I had to cook good food in front of the whole school and I had to make sure everyone liked it, including both teachers and students alike. I knew that this was my opportunity to shine and show everyone what I was made of. Students and teachers would give me compliments after eating my food, so that made me feel great about my abilities. ( 4hrs)
These are called Albondigas. It is a soup that has hand-made meatballs along with some corn, carrots and some other vegetables. The challenge in this meal is that its a soup. Soups aren't my favorite thing to make because it is always harder to know when the meals are complete. In this dish, you have to make the little meatballs by hand so if they end up wrong it is also your fault because the meal didnt come out right. ( 4 1/2 hrs)
This is a turkey I made. The reason it looks eaten is because my little brothers are vultures, but it was fun to make. It is very time consuming so so it should only be made if you know that you do have the time sto spare and are in no rush to leave early. What makes this especially difficult is that you have to make sure all parts of the turkey are evenly cooked and prepared. There are times where you are able to leave because it is in the oven cooking but you must always be aware of time. (7 hrs)
This is a chicken breast. It looks so lonely because the rest of the chicken was already eaten. This is one of the simpler things i've cooked because it isn't as complicated as the others and it doesnt require so many steps either. This is one of the more enjoyable to eat though just because you can do so many things with it, like you can cut it up into little pieces or you can even mix it with other foods. (4 1/2 hrs)
This is spaghetti, but it looks different because instead of meatballs I use ground beef for the meat, and the pasta is different than usual. Spaghetti is one of the more general meals, but there are different ways everyone can make it. We can use different meats, or different pastas and it changes the flavor completely. (5 hrs)
Independent Component 1
These are some of the meals that I prepared on my own for the Independent Component. Each one of these was time consuming and required a variety of different materials
Milanesa steak with white rice and chopped tomatoes. This is one of the pictures I have that is a full plate. It has you main food(milanesa) your side dish (rice) along with a good serving of your vegetables. (3 hrs) Rice (1 hr)
Green Salsa. This salsa is perfect for use with anything. You can use it on meat to add a little flavor to the meal. You can also add it in soups to give the soup itself a little more spice if its wanted. (1 hr)
Sopes. Sopes are basically like a little dough disc with bits of chicken over it along with any vegetables you might want to add on top. I personally like to add some parmesan cheese on it because I like the extra flavor, but thats just me. The green salsa above also goes great with sopes if it is lacking a little flavor. (2 1/2 hrs)
Pozole. This has to be my facvcorite soup...to eat. To make, not so much. It requires alot of time and constant watching because you dont want it to overcook, so you must be constantly stirring it. Personal twist on this, I like to grind up some chiles and add them into the soup because I like the spicy flavor in my soup. (4 hrs)
Mole. I dont usually like eating mole, but I made it for my parents. This is meat covered in mole which has its own distinct flavor. It isnt soup because it is much thicker and its just like a coating over the meat. (5 hrs) Mexican rice (3 hrs)
Pico de gallo salsa. This isnt like the other salsas you will see, this one isnt actually a liquid but its still a salsa because it adds flavor into anything you make. (2 hrs)
Tacos. Everyone knows what tacos are and how to eat them, thats a plus about them. Its no mystery that vegetables, lemon, and even salsa can be added to them to have a variety of different flavors. There is also a variey of different meats that can be used for tacos. (7 hrs)

Senior Project Reflection
1) What are you most proud of in your
2-Hour Presentation and/or your senior project? Why?
-I am most proud of the information i got across to everybody. I went in with a mission to make sure everyone knew what cooking really was about and I feel like i covered it well.
2 A) What assessment would you give yourself on your 2-Hour Presentation (self-assessment)? Why?
-P/AE because I feel like I did really well on it. I always had my audience involved at all times. I got my points across, I talked about my sources, and I applied them to my answers
B) What assessment would you give yourself on your overall senior project (self-assessment)? Why?
- I would give myself an AP because I wasnt always up to par to deserve the AE. I did turn in some things on time, and I wont lie about it. At the end everything did get turned in though and I felt like my presentation was the cherry on top of my project.
3) What worked for you in your senior project?
- Experience. The experience I gained while doing my independant component and my service learning was tremendous.
4) What didn’t work for you in your senior project?
-How long it took me to get service learning. The service learning I got was really useful, but it took me so long to find a place where they would let me cook for them.
5) How has the senior project been helpful to you in your future endeavors? Be specific and use examples.
-Its helped me out in the sense that I have become more of an independent individual. I have learned to rely on myself and give myself the confidence to overcome any obstacle placed in front of me.
